Assistant Principal Dahl returns to Osgood Elementary after district investigation

WEST FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – On April 30, Osgood Elementary Assistant Principal Joshua Dahl was placed on leave pending an internal investigation. Now, West Fargo Public Schools confirms Dahl will return to the school in the fall with a plan for improvement.

An investigation by the district and the state’s child protection team found that Dahl had physically grabbed or moved several students. While the report states that Dahl had caused a bruise to one of the students, it also notes that Dahl did not abuse or neglect any students. The investigation found that the student who suffered bruises was restrained after biting and hitting Dahl.

Later in the report, it says that some teachers and students experienced a variety of emotions about the way Dahl maintained order, including disappointment, confusion, sadness and fear.

The West Fargo School District says several third-grade teachers, as well as several students and their parents, were interviewed as part of the investigation.

However, it was determined that there were discrepancies reported to the investigator because the teacher and student’s memories did not match. Although staff receive and are required to provide training to mandate reporting of physical interventions and crisis prevention, there is a lack of clarity among teachers and administrators on how and when these incidents should be reported.
