Two-year-old girl fatally struck by mother’s car in tragic accident: officials

LAWNCREST – A 2-year-old girl has died after police say her mother accidentally hit her with her car in Lawncrest.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Comly Street, officials said.

Police tell FOX 29 that the child’s mother double-parked in front of her home after grocery shopping. She brought the girl into the house before picking up the groceries.

She didn’t see the girl follow her outside.

Police said when the mother got back into the vehicle to park, she didn’t know the girl was outside. Sources tell FOX 29’s Steve Keeley that the mother drove the SUV a short distance, not realizing she was dragging her daughter until she parked and got out.

The girl was taken to Einstein Medical Center and was initially in critical condition. However, she succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital.

An active investigation is ongoing with the Philadelphia Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit.
