2 dead in car crash in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Indiana – Police are investigating after a man and a woman were killed in a car crash in Lawrence early Sunday morning.

According to Lawrence police, the accident occurred in the 7200 block of East 56th Street, near Lawrence Central High School. Officers were dispatched to the area around 3:11 a.m. after receiving a report of a car crashing into a utility pole.


According to police, a man and a woman were traveling in the same vehicle before the accident. Investigators believe the car got out of control, left the road and crashed into an AES power pole.

According to police, both the man and the woman succumbed to their injuries.

Investigators believe the accident caused power outages for several hours in nearly 400 homes and businesses along East 56th Street.

AES teams were dispatched to the scene to repair the damage, but did not provide an estimate of how long the repairs would take.

Investigators believe that alcohol did not play a role in the accident. The incident remains under investigation.
