Washington appeals court temporarily revokes former Trump lawyer’s license to practice law

The Washington, DC, State Court of Appeals has temporarily suspended the law license of former President Trump’s former attorney, following a similar order issued by a California State Bar court in late March.

The license of former Trump lawyer John Eastman has been suspended in DC pending a final decision in the California court case, DC Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby said in an order filed Friday.

A California judge in late March recommended that Eastman be disbarred for making “false and misleading statements” about his claims of election fraud in 2020 and his role in “provoking” the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. State Bar Judge Yvette Roland also recommended that he pay a $10,000 fine.

This week, Roland Eastman rejected his request to lift the suspension of his driving license, saying Wednesday that he could not prove that he did not pose a “danger to the public.”

The California Supreme Court will issue a ruling in the case, which Eastman, the former dean of Chapman Law School, can appeal.

California Judge Roland found him guilty on ten counts in California last year.

Eastman is facing charges in two swing states that will be at stake in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Eastman faces eight charges in Georgia accusing him and other allies of the former president of attempting to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. He has pleaded not guilty in the case. In Arizona, he and other Trump allies face charges related to their attempts to rig the 2020 election results in the Grand Canyon State.
