Family asks for help after relative killed in hit-and-run in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Less than two weeks after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Albuquerque, the victim’s relatives gathered Friday night to remember her, hoping someone in the community knows what happened.

Relatives of 35-year-old Jeneva Salazar said she was a loving friend, sister and daughter. “She was crazy, funny and she loved her family,” is how some of Salazar’s family described her.

The family is searching for answers after her body was found near Harper and San Mateo in the middle of the night on June 16. A witness told police he saw a woman being struck by a dark-colored two-door vehicle before it fled the scene.

Salazar’s family and friends acknowledged that she struggled with substance abuse, but said she was loved by many and her life mattered. Her death came just days before her 36th birthday. “We want answers. We have a lot of questions that just don’t make sense to us,” said Cynthia Madrid, Jeneva Salazar’s mother.

A vigil was held on Friday evening to remember her and raise awareness of what happened. The family said if anyone knows anything about what happened they should contact police.
