CT man sentenced to ten years in prison for sexual abuse of children

A Connecticut man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two children under the age of 10 was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday.

Christian Lorig, 36, of East Haven was sentenced by Judge Gerald L. Harmon to 20 years in prison, suspended for 10 years, and placed on 10 years of sex offender probation, according to a news release Friday from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

According to court records, Lorig pleaded guilty on April 3 to two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering a minor.

The victims and their families spoke at the sentencing hearing in New Haven Superior Court, the DCJ said.

According to court documents, Lorig sexually abused two children under the age of 10 in Branford, East Haven and Ledyard between 2015 and 2019.

According to East Haven police and court records, Lorig was first arrested in May 2018 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and endangering a minor after an investigation concluded he had sexually abused a family member.

Lorig was on trial for those charges in August 2019, when East Haven police served him with a new warrant for first- and fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering a minor after a “concerned mother” went to East Haven police on July 31, 2019, to report that her child had provided “a detailed account of various sexual encounters” with a family member later identified as Lorig, police said.

According to police, East Haven detectives and licensed social workers conducted special forensic interviews and concluded that Lorig had sexually abused the child “on multiple occasions and over a period of several years.”

“The New Haven District Attorney’s Office is grateful for our office’s partnership with police and child protective services, all of whom are committed to stopping these cruel acts against the most vulnerable and holding perpetrators of our children accountable,” District Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. said in a statement Friday.
