Student arrested after altercation with security guard in Miami-Dade school cafeteria

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida — A Miami Gardens teenager was arrested Tuesday after getting into an altercation with a school security guard, authorities confirmed.

According to his arrest report, the incident occurred Monday at Miami Carol City Senior High School, 3301 Miami Gardens Drive.

Miami-Dade Schools Police said an altercation occurred between students in the cafeteria during lunch when a school security guard extended both arms to stop Mitchel Christophe McField from re-entering the cafeteria.

Police said McField pushed the guard’s arm away, held him against his chest and said, “Get away from me, mother*****,” before pushing him again.

According to the report, two employees witnessed the incident and gave written statements to police.

Police said McField made a statement to officers, but it was redacted from the publicly released report.

McField was arrested for assault on a school employee/official.

He was taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held Wednesday on $5,000 bail.

The school district released the following statement to Local 10 News on Wednesday:

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is aware of an altercation between a Miami Carol City Senior High School student and school staff that occurred earlier this week. The student involved was arrested by Miami-Dade Schools Police and will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance. This school district makes great efforts to promote the values ​​of restraint and respect. We ask parents to reinforce these principles at home.”
