3 injured after explosion at special effects company in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A box full of flammable equipment exploded at a live special effects company in Nashville Wednesday morning, according to the Nashville Fire Department.

The incident occurred at Strictly FX, the special effects company located at 120 Airpark Center Drive. According to the fire department, eight to ten employees were working near the equipment box when it exploded. At least three people were injured in the explosion.

The employees, who suffered non-critical injuries, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of injuries including broken glass in the skin, according to the fire department. An employee could have a damaged eardrum.

The explosion also damaged a gas pipeline, releasing natural gas into the air. This threat was thwarted after the gas company arrived on scene and turned off the gas.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Strictly FX’s Facebook page says the company specializes in pyrotechnics, flame effects, cryogenics, CO2 effects and more for concerts and corporate performances.
