Hooters closes restaurants in Houston area

HOUSTON — Hooters has closed dozens of locations across the country, including some in Texas.

The Atlanta-based casual dining chain cited “pressure from current market conditions” as the reason it decided to close several “underperforming stores.”

The company would not say exactly how many stores have closed and did not release a list of locations. However, 41 locations in the United States are no longer listed on the Hooters website and were present there as of mid-January. Each of these locations is listed as “permanently closed” on Google and their social media accounts have been shut down.

The locations are spread across 14 states, with Texas having by far the most store closures: The Lone Star State has 16, while most other states have just a handful each. The two that closed in the Houston area were in Seabrook on NASA Road 1 and in Galveston on Heards Lane.

Hooters is just the latest chain this spring to abruptly close multiple locations. Last month, Red Lobster closed more than 90 locations before filing for bankruptcy.

Despite the latest closures, Hooters said its 41-year-old brand “remains very resilient and relevant.”

“We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at home, on the go and in our restaurants here in the United States and around the world,” the company said.
