Five years in prison for shooting in Danville | News

DANVILLE – A former Danville resident was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm without a firearms license – a Class 3 felony.

Judge Mark Goodwin handed down the sentence against 20-year-old Jayuonta Cunningham in Vermilion County District Court, which also includes a six-month suspended sentence.

Goodwin heard evidence that at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 12, Danville police responded to a 911 call about shots fired at 224 Tennessee Avenue. Initial reports indicated that a drive-by shot had been fired at the residence at that address. Physical evidence showed that the shots had indeed been fired from the residence at that address.

Officers found two firearms in Cunningham’s dresser. They confirmed that Cunningham did not have a valid FOID card and was ineligible for one due to his criminal history.
