Randallstown High teacher and coach charged with sexual abuse of minors – Capital Gazette

According to Baltimore County authorities, a Randallstown High School teacher and football coach has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor.

Carlos Arroyo, 38, of Randallstown, was arrested Friday by the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit and charged with two felonies: sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree sex offense. Misdemeanors include second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense by a person in a position of power.

The police department said in a press release on Sunday that it was informed of the alleged attack in late April, after which detectives spent weeks conducting interviews and collecting evidence.

A lawyer who said he represents Arroyo, Bradley Shepherd, wrote in an email that he had no comment on the case at this time.

Arroyo is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center and will have a bail review hearing on Monday.

Arroyo, a social studies teacher and boys’ soccer coach, has been placed on leave, according to a letter from Principal Michael Jones to the school community Saturday afternoon. Arroyo will have “no further access to the school or the soccer team,” the letter said.

“These allegations are deeply disturbing,” Jones wrote. “We hold our employees to high standards of character and this behavior is completely unacceptable.”

According to a LinkedIn profile, Arroyo worked as a teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools from May 2022 to May 2024. According to the letter, he has worked at Randallstown High School since August 2022. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2012 and a master’s degree in teaching from Towson University in 2022., according to LinkedIn.

Jones’ letter states that counseling staff will be available to speak with students this week.
