Newton woman dies in I-135 crash after crossing median and hitting semi-truck

A 29-year-old Newton woman died in a crash on I-135 Saturday after she crossed the center lane and collided with a tractor-trailer and trailer, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper.

Konner Lynne Hayes died at the scene of the crash north of the Newton Outlet Mall. The 44-year-old Jacksonville, Florida, man who was driving the semi-trailer was not injured.

The accident was reported at 13:42

Hayes was driving a 2017 Hyundai Accent north on I-135 when she “crossed the center lane for an unknown reason” and collided with the southbound semi-truck, a trooper wrote in an accident report.

The tractor-trailer skidded and came to a stop, blocking both northbound lanes of I-135, the trooper wrote.
