Pramila Jayapal and Joy Reid mock Fox’s rape coverage

Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) laughed out loud after the MSNBC moderator Joy Reid read a Fox News chyron during Reid’s show earlier this week describing the rape of a 13-year-old girl in New York City by an illegal immigrant.

At the beginning of the conversation, Reid noted that a large majority of the country now supports the deportation of all illegal immigrants. Jayapal argued that the better alternative to such a policy would be to make it easier for immigrants who have entered the country illegally to find work.

“There is a lot of panic being spread,” she lamented.

“I want to show you that this is one of the reasons people think that way,” Reid said, jumping back into the conversation. “Here are the three cable networks that are covering this. Our banner said, ‘Biden to soon announce legal protections for spouses of undocumented citizens.’ CNN’s banner said, ‘Biden announces new protections for some undocumented spouses.’ And here was Fox’s banner: ‘Migrant arrested for raping 13-year-old New York City girl.'” Notably, the Fox banner Reid used predated Biden’s announcement of his new amnesty program, which the network actually aired live moments later.

This caused Jayapal to laugh and exclaim: “Yes!”

“And I think that’s part of

the problem,” Reid added.

“Exactly,” Jayapal agreed.

“You are spreading a lot of panic,” the moderator concluded.

Jayapal further explained that resistance to illegal immigration was due to “economic uncertainty.”

On Tuesday, Christian Geovanny Inga-Landia 25-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in a Queens park earlier this month.

Ingra-Landi first entered the country in 2021, when he was arrested and released by border police. An immigration judge had ordered him to leave the country in 2022, but he never did. He is accused of holding and tying up the victim and a teenager at knifepoint and sexually assaulting the girl.
