One dead in head-on collision in Wasatch County after drifting into oncoming lane

A 39-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision on a highway in Wasatch County after he crossed into the oncoming lane.

Sergeant Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said a black Ford F-150 was traveling west on State Route 40 near mile marker 24 around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The driver drove into oncoming traffic to pass another vehicle traveling in the same direction.

For an unknown reason, the Ford remained in the oncoming lane after passing the vehicle. Roden said the F-150 collided head-on with a silver Dodge Ram pulling a flatbed trailer.

The driver and the only passenger of the Ford died at the scene of the accident.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

While the accident was being investigated, State Route 40 was closed in both directions for about three and a half hours.
