Man arrested for rape and murder of his sister-in-law, manhunt for second accused underway

Pune (Maharashtra) (India), September 22 (ANI): A man was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering his 19-year-old sister-in-law in Pune in Maharashtra on Tuesday, police said.

Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash said, “The main accused has been arrested while the manhunt for the second accused is on.”

The accused, named Tukaram, lived in Thomas Colony and had offered his guest room to his newly married cousin and his wife.

Prakash said the accused took the victim out on the pretext of showing her an ancient temple, but then along with one of his friends demanded physical favours from the 19-year-old girl.

“When the girl resisted, she was raped by the main accused’s girlfriend. Later, when the girl became more agitated, the main accused strangled her with her own headscarf and destroyed her face to destroy the evidence,” the police commissioner added. (ANI)
