Increased police patrols at AA Comeaux Parks & Recreation

ABBEVILLE, Louisiana (KLFY) – The citizens of Abbeville will experience increased police patrols during major events. AA Comeaux Parks & RecreationThis comes after the Council in a meeting in early June decided to take proactive measures to make the park safe after an explosion A dispute between two adults caused chaos and panic in the community.

“Let’s always remember that we’re doing this for the kids, and let the adults set an example of how to behave. So more patrols will make everyone happy, and if everyone cooperates, it will be wonderful for the kids. That’s what this park is for,” said Councilman Brady Broussard of Ward C.

Councilman Broussard said Mayor Rosyln White and the council may have discussed increased patrol in the park, which is home to the travel ball industry that brings hundreds or thousands of people to town. After meeting with Police Chief Mike Hardy, he said increased patrol in the area would be welcome.

“All of our shifts now know if there’s a tournament, we know that sometimes there’s 25, 30, 40 teams there. So that’s four, five, 600 extra people in town. So we’re going to make sure we come by pretty often. If they need anything, we’re there. Sometimes you’ll see an extra car driving around, sometimes you’ll see two or three cars just patrolling that area because they know there’s a congestion in their area,” Chief Hardy said. “We want people to feel like we’re paying attention to what’s going on.”

He adds: “We want everyone to have fun, but this is for the kids and we want everyone to be polite about it. We want them to approach it like adults and this makes it safe for everyone.”

Councilman Brady said the park has a wading pool, skateboard park, tennis, pickleball, jogging, running, softball and baseball. Therefore, he said, “We want parks to be a haven for our children and our family, and we will not tolerate disruptions in those places.”

Regarding the APD investigation, Police Chief Hardy said arrest warrants have been issued for the individuals involved and they have turned themselves in.

“We notified the people and they came, posted bail and they will settle the matter in court,” he said.
