BREAKING NEWS: Labour suspends strike | TheNewsGuru

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended the strike.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that trade unions went on strike on Monday to press their demand for a living wage in the country.

However, following an intervention by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the unions agreed to suspend the strike so that negotiations could continue.

TUC President Festus Osifo said in Abuja on Tuesday that the strike was suspended. Osifo added that a communiqué would be issued shortly.

It was revealed that following a joint extraordinary meeting of the NLC-TUC National Executive Council, the unions had agreed to suspend the strike for five (5) days.

The Deputy National Secretary of the Association of Air Transport Association of Nigeria (ATTSAN), Francis Akinjorin, also confirmed that this was a temporary measure.

“It is a suspension, not a cancellation. We are relaxing the measures for a week and not suspending the strike in order to give the federal government a week’s grace and test its seriousness,” Said Akinjorin.
