Three arrests following drug bust in Alleghany County

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office arrested three people on drug charges after serving a search warrant on Tuesday, May 6.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office arrested three people on drug charges after serving a search warrant on Tuesday, May 6.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force and Virginia State Police conducted the search at a home in the 100 block of Bailey’s Road in Covington.


During the search, officers allegedly seized the following:

  • 318 grams of methamphetamine
  • 20 grams of heroin
  • One gram of crack cocaine
  • Three grams of ecstasy
  • Four handguns
  • Numerous bags for packing
  • Scale
  • $3,997 in US currency

VSP BCI bomb and arson officers also responded after two suspicious devices were reportedly found. X-rays of the devices revealed that one device was empty and the other allegedly contained additional medication.

Police arrested three suspects, 50-year-old Shannon Lee Cooper, 43-year-old Judy Saunders Barber and 61-year-old Patrick Ray Webb, who were inside the home during the search.

They were reportedly accused of:

Shannon Lee Cooper:

  • Obstruction of justice, fleeing a police officer
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance
  • Possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of methamphetamine
  • Possession with intent to distribute more than 10 grams of heroin
  • Possession with intent to distribute Extasy/MDMA
  • Possession with intent to distribute cocaine
  • Possession of controlled paraphernalia
  • Child endangerment

Judy Saunders Barber:

  • Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
  • Possession with intent to distribute heroin
  • Possession with intent to distribute cocaine
  • Possession of controlled paraphernalia
  • Child endangerment

Patrick Ray Webb:

  • Possession of a controlled substance cocaine
  • Possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance
