Matt Leinart calls for Angel Reese to be suspended after a blatant foul on Caitlin Clark

Former USC Trojans quarterback and 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, Really didn’t like how hard Angel Reese fouled Caitlin Clark on Sunday.

Leinart, who works as an analyst for Fox Sports’ “Big Noon Kickoff,” had apparently previously watched the Chicago Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever. During the third quarter of the latest chapter of the budding rivalry, Clark rushed to the basket with his left hand and attempted to complete the layup with his right hand.

Reese came to the defense to help. Although she was aiming for the ball, she made quite a bit of contact with Clark’s head, to say the least.

I will not say that the contact was definitely intentional, since Clark even said afterwards that she did not consider the foul to be serious.

But I am also not prepared to rule out that could have been intentionally. Remember, Reese erupted in joy when Chennedy Carter bodychecked Clark earlier this month. She could have taken the opportunity to get her pound of flesh in today’s game.

Reese is the girl who gets up from the bench in this video and starts clapping.

Regardless of what I think, Leinart seems convinced that Reese’s foul was intentional and called on the league to penalize her for the play.

“Angel Reese should be suspended. Period. Not good for the game,” he said wrote on X.

Again, we can’t really prove whether the foul was malicious or not, and the WNBA probably won’t do anything to punish her (since they Carter was neither punished nor suspended for her foul). In all likelihood, Clark will have to accept it and move on.

Clark and the Fever earned a 91-83 victory over Chicago and will have another chance to face the Sky on June 23.
