How two men allegedly raped and robbed women at gunpoint – Police

The police in Anambra State, In southeast Nigeria, two men have been arrested on suspicion of raping and robbing women in the state.

The state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.

According to Police Commissioner Ikenga, the suspects are 35-year-old Chukwuma Diji and 31-year-old Micheal Edochie, all indigenes of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of ​​the state.

How they allegedly raped and robbed women

Mr Ikenga said the suspects raped an unidentified married woman in Obinagu, a village in Abagana community, sometime in 2023.

The police spokesman claimed that the suspects fled the community when security forces tried to arrest them.

He said the suspects broke into the apartment of an unnamed young woman on June 6 and raped her and her friend at gunpoint.

He, however, did not confirm whether the alleged rape took place in the same Abagana community.

“The (alleged) criminals later forced one of the victims to transfer money into his account after taking turns having sex with them,” he said.

Mr Ikenga said police officers from the Abagana Police Command arrested the suspects on Saturday morning.

The spokesman said the suspects confessed to the crimes.

Two domestically made double-barrelled pistols, one domestically made single-barrelled pistol, six live cartridges and a motorcycle were seized from the suspects, the statement said.

The spokesman said the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Itam, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and possible prosecution.

“The suspects will be brought to justice after the investigation is completed,” he said.
