Teacher accused of sexually abusing a minor released on bail | News

A St. Catherine educator who allegedly sexually abused an underage girl has been granted bail of $500,000.

The 23-year-old appeared before St. Catherine’s Parish Court on Thursday. He was accused of aggravated sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.

His release on bail is subject to the conditions that he report to the police once a week, hand over his travel documents and have no contact with the plaintiff.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 9.

The defendant is accused of sexually abusing the 15-year-old plaintiff during a retreat for educators in May of this year.

The alleged traumatic experience involved a friend of the teenager.

It was then transmitted to the child’s parents, one of whom is a colleague of the defendant.

The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offenses and Child Abuse was informed and an investigation was launched.

The defendant turned himself in to the police and was charged after a question-and-answer session on Wednesday in the presence of his lawyer.
