British duel Raducanu vs. Boulter cancelled due to rain

The Nottingham Open semi-final clash between Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter was stopped due to rain after an epic first set. Britain’s top tennis players battled for an hour and 20 minutes before rain stopped play.
Expectations were high for the home crowd as they watched the top two players face off in the semi-finals in Nottingham. Raducanu delivered her best performance of the year, winning back-to-back matches against Ena Shibahara and Daria Snigur before moving into the semi-finals without a fight against the third seed.
Boulter, on the other hand, struggled in the first round against fellow countrywoman Harriet Dart, coming back from a set down. She then defeated Rebecca Marino and number 5 seed Magdalena Frech in straight sets before facing the former Grand Slam champion in the semifinals.

During a hard-fought first set, both players dominated with their serves and remained evenly matched throughout. Raducanu wasted two break points in the fifth game and fended off two break chances in the next game, conceding them to Boulter.

Everything went to a tiebreak, in which Boulter made the first mini-break and led 4-1. Raducanu recovered and the two exchanged a 28-point lead before the 21-year-old won the set 7-6 (13).

In the tiebreak, Boulter lost 6 points on her serve and wasted three set points, including one on her serve. Raducanu, on the other hand, conceded five points on her serve and finally won the set on her sixth chance. A few minutes later, with the second set still tied at 0-0, the umpire decided to suspend play due to the threat of rain in Nottingham.

Play will continue on Sunday in the first slot of the day, with the winner later playing the final against the winner of the match between Karolina Pliskova (seeded 6) and Diane Parry. Raducanu is just one set away from returning to the top 150 and reaching a tournament final for the first time since the 2021 US Open.
