Shooting in Newark: One person injured, vehicles damaged in nighttime incident

An investigation is currently underway following a shooting incident in Newark in which one person was injured and two vehicles were hit by gunfire.Shortly before 12:30 a.m., a gun battle broke out near 33 North 12th Street.

Upon arrival, Newark police secured the area after discovering an unidentified person with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim was immediately taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. While examining the scene, officers found two unoccupied vehicles that had been struck by bullets.The Newark Shooting Response Team was on site to assist with the investigation.

The suspect fled the scene and is still at large.
