Man arrested after fleeing attempted traffic stop after hitting police vehicle

DOVER, Delaware – A Viola man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen car.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., a patrol officer on Route 13 near the POW/MIA Parkway observed a black GMC Terrain fail to stop at a stop sign. It was also learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The officer then attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled recklessly through several streets in the Dover area before striking a marked Dover Police vehicle at Wyoming Avenue and New Burton Road. After colliding with the Dover Police vehicle, the driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Jacob McCulley, was found in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia after a search of the vehicle and his person. He was charged with receiving stolen goods over $1,500, failure to obey a police signal, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations. He was held on $5,458 bail.

We have been informed that no one was injured in this incident.
