Search continues for suspect who beat and sexually assaulted 91-year-old woman in Marion County

Reddick is a small farming community in Marion County that is not used to serious crime. Especially not a 91-year-old woman who was sleeping in her home at midnight Sunday. “Someone broke into her home, beat her up and sexually assaulted her,” Marion County Lt. Sheriff Paul Bloom told WESH 2. According to officials, the woman was sleeping when she heard the intruder and was attacked shortly afterward. “What he did was just wrong, and the whole town is not going to like that,” Reddick resident Jeffery Morris said. How the man got into the home is unclear, and in the darkness, the victim could not provide a description. “Next thing you know, this person beats her up and then sexually assaults her before leaving,” Bloom said. Investigators said this case is a top priority and the victim is a fighter. “I’ve seen pictures of the victim and what this person did to her. The fact that she was strong enough to get up and keep going was unbelievable. She was calling us, screaming and yelling at her attacker and fighting back against him,” Bloom said. Investigators said they have been carefully collecting fingerprints and other evidence from the victim’s home in hopes of getting a clue as to who this attacker is. “DNA, fingerprints, all of that has been collected, so hopefully in the next few days we will have a clearer story,” Bloom said. “This is very unusual, something that is very shocking even to experienced law enforcement officers. Long story short, it gets under your skin.” Investigators have already collected some doorbell cameras and other videos in the community, but are asking others to be on the lookout for anything unusual and to submit it to the sheriff’s office.
