Angels veteran injured in bizarre accident resumes rehab in minor league

Los Angeles Angels infielder Miguel Sanó has learned his lesson if he decides to use a heating pad again. The veteran’s burn has healed enough for him to resume his rehab duties.

Sanó played in Saturday’s Arizona Complex League Angels game, his first game since being burned by a heating pad, and was 1-for-3 and scored a run.

The third baseman was originally on the injured list with a knee injury that required the use of a heating pad. The accidental burn he sustained is the ultimate in strange injuries. When manager Ron Washington told reporters about the strange incident on May 26, he said it was nothing serious but that they would “consider it a setback.”

Sanó last played on April 26 and was placed on the injured list on May 1 due to inflammation of his left knee. He played two games for the Arizona Complex League Angels before his rehab was paused due to the burn.

The 31-year-old had a batting average of .262 (16 of 61) with one home run, eight runs scored and five RBIs. In nine major league seasons, he has a slash average of .234/.326/.479 with 163 home runs.
