Two dead and dozens injured in Czech train accident: spokesman

Two people died and dozens were injured when an express train collided with a freight train in the Czech city of Pardubice late Wednesday, a spokesman said.

“I can confirm two deaths. The number could rise,” Martin Kavka, spokesman for railway operator Sprava Zeleznic, told AFP.

He told Czech television that firefighters were still busy with rescue operations…

He told Czech television that firefighters were still busy rescuing people from the trains.

News channel CT24 reported that the accident occurred before 21:00 GMT near the main railway station in Pardubice, about 100 kilometers east of the capital Prague.

Kavka added that there were around 200 passengers on the express train from Prague to the eastern Slovakian city of Kosice.
