Recall alert: Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX

Toyota and its luxury division Lexus have initiated a safety recall for approximately 102,000 Toyota Tundra pickups and Lexus LX SUVs from the 2022-2023 model years due to a series of engine problems. All of the recalled cars use the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

The company explains: “Certain machining residues may not have been removed from the engine during production.” These residues can cause “engine knocking, rough engine running, engine starting problems and/or loss of drive power.”

Toyota announced the recall before submitting it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In a statement, the company says it is “currently working on a fix for this issue.” This could mean dealers checking for damage and replacing unusually worn parts, although sometimes a complete engine replacement is also possible.

If the repair is carried out, it is free of charge. By law, dealers do not charge for repairs after a recall.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. Although automakers try to reach every owner and ask them to bring the vehicle in for repairs, they rarely reach everyone. Millions of vehicles on American roads are subject to free repairs as part of the recall. To find out if your car is one of them, use the simple VIN tool in our Recall Center.
