2 dead, 1 injured in traffic accident in Columbiana County in Knox Township, Ohio

KNOX TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – Two people were killed in a traffic accident in Columbiana County Monday morning.

The head-on collision occurred around 10:50 a.m. on US 62.


According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east and a Chevrolet HHR was traveling west when the driver of the HHR drifted left off center and collided head-on with the Suburban.

The driver of the HHR and a passenger were killed in the accident. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Suburban was taken to Mercy Hospital Canton with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, neither the driver nor the passenger of the HHR were wearing seat belts. The driver of the Suburban and a passenger in the back seat were wearing seat belts.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to play a role and the accident remains under investigation, police said.

Police added that they would like to remind drivers of the importance of wearing their seatbelts.
