Two people killed in separate crashes on state roads | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

According to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police, two people were killed in separate car crashes on state highways Saturday evening.

Ellis Joey, 42, of Magnolia, was fatally injured near County Road 216 in Magnolia around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, according to an Arkansas State Police report. Joey was traveling northbound when he lost control of his ATV and left the road. The vehicle overturned and Joey was pronounced dead at the scene.

An officer investigating the death reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the incident.

Arturo Vargas, 26, of Altheimer, was killed at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday on Highway 88 west of Kings Bayou Road, according to an Arkansas State Police report. The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Vargas was driving left the roadway, rolled over, and the driver was partially ejected from the roadway. Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an official investigating the accident, the roads were dry and the weather was clear.
