“We could have done a better job.” Atlanta Mayor Promises Better Communication After Water Mains Burst – 95.5 WSB

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens joined other city officials, including Police Chief Darin Schierbaum and Watershed Commissioner Al Wiggins Jr., to address residents of the city Saturday afternoon.

The city of Atlanta experienced at least four water main breaks throughout the day Friday, including two classified as “major”: Joseph E. Boone Blvd. and James P. Brawley Dr. and W. Peachtree St. and 11th St.

Mayor Dickens assured residents that crews were working diligently around the clock to repair the breaks and restore water service.

Currently, thousands of Atlantans are without water and thousands more are under a boil water advisory.

The mayor acknowledged that the city’s communication since the first break Friday morning hasn’t been the best.

“I’ll be frank. Overnight, we didn’t do the best job of communicating. We could have done a better job over the last day and I apologize for that,” he said.

The mayor says he will provide regular updates at least every two hours until the problem is resolved.

There is currently no timetable for when repairs will be completed and water service restored throughout the city.
