Woman arrested after dog dies in Phoenix heatwave

Neighbors of an apartment complex called the police after they noticed the dog was in distress.

PHOENIX – A dog died Wednesday after it was allegedly left on an apartment balcony without food or water, according to Phoenix police.

Neighbors of the apartment complex called the police after they noticed the dog was in distress.

Officers arrived at the complex near N. Central Avenue and E. McDowell Road around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Phoenix police officials said while officers were on scene, the dog was returned to the apartment and the resident left without speaking to them.

Officers called the tenant and returned to the scene, officials said. The woman was arrested after the dog was found dead in the apartment.

Temperatures at Phoenix airport reached 39 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

31-year-old Ivory Crawford was arrested for animal cruelty.
