Fatal accident on Thursday: Woman dies, men from Merrimack seriously injured

MANCHESTER, NH – The driver of an SUV that collided with a pickup truck Thursday, killing one person and injuring several others, is charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Manchester Police, Fire Department and an AMR ambulance responded to a two-vehicle crash on Massabesic Street between Valley and Jewett Streets.

When emergency services arrived, they found several people trapped and seriously injured. The accident occurred between a light blue Mercury Mariner (model year 2009) and a black GMC Sierra (model year 2020), which, according to police, had collided head-on.

The driver of the GMC was identified as a 37-year-old man from Merrimack, NH who sustained serious injuries in this crash. The passenger of the GMC was also a 37-year-old man from Merrimack who sustained minor injuries in this crash.

The driver of the Mercury Mariner was identified as 53-year-old Kevin Hicks of Manchester, NH, who was arrested by Manchester police and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Hicks sustained minor injuries in the crash.

A passenger on the Mercury was identified as a 50-year-old woman from Manchester, NH, who died as a result of her injuries in the crash.

Other occupants of the vehicle included a 54-year-old man from Manchester and a 51-year-old man from Hooksett, NH, both of whom sustained serious injuries. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

This is the second fatal accident in Manchester in less than 24 hours and the third fatality this month.

On Wednesday evening, a Merrimack man was killed when his motorcycle collided with the car of a Chester teenager at the corner of Willow and Union Streets.

Earlier this month, two Dunbarton residents were killed when a vehicle turned and collided with a motorcycle on Elm Street.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Manchester Police Department’s Traffic Unit. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at 603-668-8711.
