2 dead after accident on US 322 near Philipsburg

Two people died in a three-vehicle accident on US Route 322 near Philipsburg on Wednesday afternoon.

The drivers of two vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene by the Centre County Coroner’s Office following an initial head-on collision. The driver of a third vehicle was unable to avoid the accident and was injured in the second collision.

The names of the dead and the condition of the third driver were not released.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Port Matilda Highway in Rush Township, west of Thompson’s Curve, according to Fire Department-Hope Mountain.

Route 322 was closed between Port Matilda and Philipsburg until about 6 p.m.

The Centre County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 322 near Philipsburg Wednesday afternoon.

The Philipsburg Fire Department, Port Matilda Fire Department, Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services, Mountain Top Emergency Medical Services, State Police and the Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene.
