One dead, minor injuries in fatal off-road vehicle crash in Schoolcraft County

One person was injured and another died in an all-terrain vehicle crash Sunday in Schoolcraft County. The Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost was dispatched to an ATV crash on Hemlock Trail in Thompson Township after 8 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found an ATV that had gone out of control and overturned, ejecting the driver and passenger. The vehicle rolled over the 33-year-old driver from Chicago, causing life-threatening injuries. Life-saving measures were administered at the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. The 11-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash. Both individuals were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Michigan State Police say the incident remains under investigation. MSP officers were assisted by Manistique Public Safety and Sault Tribal Police.
