Investigation into fatal shooting in Irwindale underway

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday in Irwindale.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives, the shooting was reported around 10:30 a.m. in the riverbed near the 605 Freeway, just south of the 210 Freeway.

The circumstances of the shooting are still unclear, but when Irwindale police officers arrived, they found a person dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.

LASD is assisting IPD in the investigation.

SkyCal flew over the shooting scene on Sunday, showing a large encampment off the highway embankment where two SWAT vehicles and nearly half a dozen officers with firearms drawn were searching the area.
