Porsche accident in Pune: 2 doctors arrested for allegedly falsifying evidence

Two doctors were arrested on Monday for allegedly destroying evidence and tampering with the minor’s blood samples in the Porsche accident, police said.

The head of the forensic department of Sassoon Hospital, Dr. Ajay Taware, and the chief medical officer (CMO), Dr. Srihari Harnor, were arrested by the Pune Crime Branch.

According to police chief Amitesh Kumar, the two were arrested for tampering with blood samples to falsify evidence, which amounts to criminal conspiracy.

“The accused were arrested by the Crime Branch early today under sections 201 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the luxury car accident,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende.

Both doctors were arrested in a case against the 17-year-old that was originally filed at Yerawada police station. The police are now citing further parts of the case.

After being arrested by the police, the minor was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination at 11 a.m. on May 19, the day of the accident.

The blood test by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) found no traces of alcohol in the blood samples taken from the suspect.

The second blood test confirmed the presence of alcohol in the bloodstream and DNA testing also proved that the blood samples were taken from two different people.

The accident occurred in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area when the 17-year-old boy, who was driving a Porsche, collided with a motorcycle, killing Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa.

The minor, who is currently lodged at the Yerawada observation home till June 5, was released by the juvenile court within 15 hours of his arrest.
