Honey trap: 32-year-old businessman kidnapped in honey trap incident; police investigation underway | Chennai News

Chennai: Police are investigating the complaint of a businessman who claims that he was kidnapped by a gang from MRC Nagar and released only after paying a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. Police said Javed Saifuddin, 32, a resident of Royapettah, runs a mobile phone shop there. He is married and lives with his family. Recently, he befriended a woman on social media. According to his complaint, on May 17, he received a message from the woman’s phone number inviting him to a party at her house in Karpagam Avenue, MRC Nagar. Javed drove to the spot at around 9 pm. However, when he reached there, he could not find the house. He got out of the car and started searching for the house. Just then, a four-member gang approached him and dragged him into a car. Inside the car, they threatened him and took away Rs 10,000 in cash and his mobile phones. Later, they drove him to a house in Maduravoyal. The gang told him that they would be paid Rs 50 lakh by an unknown person if they killed him. Javed promised to pay the same amount if they let him go. The next day, his friend handed over the money to the gang. In the evening, he was released near Chetpet Bridge. A week after the incident, Javed filed a complaint with Foreshore Estate police. A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing. “We are probing whether the woman who befriended him was part of the gang or whether the men were running the social media account in the woman’s name. We have some leads and hope to arrest them soon,” said a police officer.
