Edo LP ratifies Abure’s suspension as national chairman

The suspension of the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Julius Abure, from the party was confirmed at a meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee held late Friday evening at the State Secretariat in Benin City.

The confirmation of Abure’s suspension followed the suspension of his party membership in Arue-Uromi Ward 3 in the Esan North East Local Government Area of ​​Edo State over alleged arrogance and anti-party activities.

A letter of suspension dated May 14, 2024, and another letter of ratification dated May 15, 2024, both ratified at a meeting of the State Executive Committee in Benin on Friday evening, state that the suspension is effective immediately.

The Edo LP board also advised Abure “not to impersonate or display any identities as a member of the Labour Party, Ward 3, Arue, Uromi in Ean North-East LGA, Edo State.”

The suspension letter was signed by District Chairman Thompson Ehiguese and District Secretary Stanley Usiomoh.

The letter confirming his suspension was forwarded by the party’s Esan North East Local Government Chairman, Patrick Onogbeni, and the LGA Secretary, Ehikioya Eromosele, to the party’s State Executive Committee through the State Chairman.

The confirmation letter reads: “I hereby transmit to you for your consideration the confirmation of the suspension of Comrade Lawyer Julius Abure from membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Ean North East LGA, Edo State.

“The LGA Board met on May 15, 2024, around noon to discuss the points submitted for suspension and accordingly found them to be significant and the suspension was ratified and maintained.”

The state executive committee, led by Kelly Ogbaloi, approved the decisions of the party’s district and local committees in its meeting which began at 8.45pm on Friday.

The venue was stormy as party leaders and members chanted: “Abure must go!”

The state board reviewed the letters and the issues contained therein and confirmed Abure’s suspension.
