Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar highway will remain suspended today

NH44 traffic restriction: Vehicular traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar stretch of National Highway-44 (NH-44) will remain suspended throughout the day on Tuesday (May 21), officials said on Monday. As part of the restriction, movement of vehicles of any kind, including those carrying fresh perishable goods, livestock and security forces, will not be allowed on the above route, it said Rohit Baskotra, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, National Highway.

“Furthermore, no vehicular movement will be prohibited on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW route from Qazigund towards Banihal, Ramban, Doda-Kishtwar, Udhampur, Jammu and vice versa from 6 pm today (May 20) and from Nagrota (Jammu) from 5 pm . from Udhampur; from 6 pm towards Patnitop, Doda-Kishtwar, Ramban, Gool, Banihal, Srinagar and vice versa,” Baskotra was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

NH44 traffic restriction: Officials have not revealed the reason

Without giving any specific reason for the movement restriction, the official said there was more than one reason, ANI reported. The SSP urged people to cooperate with traffic police and plan their journey accordingly. NH44 is the longest national highway in the country and is considered the lifeline of Kashmir as it connects the valley with the rest of the country.
