Buffalo Public Schools adopts 24-25 budget

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — In a unanimous vote, the Buffalo Public Schools Board of Education adopted its budget for the 2024-25 school year.

Dr. Tonja Williams, the district’s superintendent, said it’s not an easy process, with about 30 layoffs included in the budget.

The possibility of layoffs in a number of local school districts has led to protests. For Buffalo Public Schools, the loss of $90 million in federal and other pandemic-related funds was a major blow to the planning process.

Buffalo Public Schools has more than 7,000 staff members. In total, the approved budget amounts to more than a billion dollars.
