Off-duty officer assaulted and gun stolen, Philadelphia police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

Philadelphia police will release more details about an incident in which a man allegedly assaulted an off-duty officer, stole his gun and then struck him with his vehicle as he fled.

The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of West Oxford Street. Police said an unknown man assaulted an off-duty officer and stole his personal firearm. During the incident, the officer managed to disarm the attacker and fired the suspect’s gun in self-defense, investigators said.

The attacker then fled the scene in a black BMW sedan and hit the officer with the vehicle. The suspect was last seen in Area 9Th and Cumberland Streets. The vehicle was later recovered and the suspect was arrested Sunday afternoon at G and Hilton streets. Police have not yet released the name of the suspect. They also said the officer’s stolen gun remains missing.

Police later released surveillance photos of several women who they said intervened when the officer initially tried to arrest the male suspect. Police later said they had identified the women but had not released their names. They keep looking for them.

Police also released surveillance photos of several men they want to identify and speak to in connection with the incident.
