Sheriff identifies Kansas man killed in ATV accident

SHAWNEE COUNTY — A Kansas man died in a crash just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Shawnee County.

According to Deputy Abigail Christian, an ATV driven by 44-year-old Blake C. Asher of Topeka was traveling south in the 7900 block of NW 86th Street. The ATV left the road. A few moments later, a friend noticed Asher unresponsive near the SUV and called for help to a passerby, who called 911.

The friend and later deputy attempted resuscitation. Firefighters and medical personnel arrived and continued life-saving measures. Asher was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Christian, he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The accident is still under investigation.
