Email giant Uber is investigating an incident in which a woman in Cape Town was allegedly sexually assaulted in one of its vehicles, robbed at gunpoint and driven around for hours.

The incident occurred Friday evening at approximately 9:25 p.m., Capt. Aubrey Morwenyane, Bellville Police station speaker confirmed earlier.

“WWhat has been described is completely unacceptable,” an Uber spokesman said on Sunday.

“WWe extend our deepest condolences to the victim because no one should ever have to experience such a tragedy. The safety of all passengers and drivers using the Uber app is our top priority.”

The woman, 21, requested an Uber from her workplace in Bellville on Friday evening. The driver told her to sit in the back seat.

“WWhile she was driving, another man came out of the trunk of the vehicle and sat next to her. He then removed the gun and pointed it at her.” Morwenyane said.

“HShe demanded all of her belongings, including her laptop, cell phone and work scanner.”

The woman was then sexually abused by the robber.

The couple then forced the woman to call her family and ask for money.
