Man killed in hit-and-run in North Lawrence

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in North Lawrence.

According to police, a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling on the Rockaway Turnpike near East Avenue around 11:19 p.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle fled the scene of the accident.

The male victim suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rockaway Turnpike was closed this morning but has since reopened.
