Panthers assistant GM Brandon Beane interviews for Bills GM job

Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane is a candidate for the opening-day general manager position with the Buffalo Bills.

The bills announcement On Thursday, Beane interviewed for the vacant position.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com first reported Wednesday that Beane was expected to interview with Buffalo.

Joseph Person of Charlotte Observer noted that the Bills asked the Panthers for permission to speak with Beane on Monday. Nobody called Beane a “favorite” thanks to his ties to Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott, who was Carolina’s defensive coordinator for six years.

While Beane was also considered a potential Panthers general manager down the line, Person clarified NFL rules preventing Carolina from stopping the interview with the Bills because the open position would grant him more responsibilities with the list than his current position.

Elsewhere, John McClain of Houston Chronicle reported that Houston Texans director of player personnel Brian Gaine also received permission to interview for the Buffalo job.

The Bills created the general manager opening when they fired Doug Whaley after the 2017 NFL Draft.
