Logan man found dead after ‘medical incident’ | News

LOGAN – A Logan man was found dead Friday morning, May 10, following a reported medical incident, according to police. The 36-year-old man reportedly died from a self-inflicted knife wound in an upstairs bedroom of the residence at 774 N. 200 East.

Logan City Police Lt. Barry Parslow said officers went to the home after the man’s wife called 911. There were reports that a knife was involved and the man was injured.

“The husband went into an upstairs bedroom,” Parslow said, “as the wife left the house so police could get her to safety. Officers kept the woman with them and attempted to contact the man over a loudspeaker but received no response.”

Logan’s special weapons and tactics team was sent to the house. Officers also blocked 200 East between 700 and 800 North and briefly imposed a lockdown at Mt. Logan Middle School.

Parslow said police remained outside and attempted to contact the man in the upstairs bedroom.

“Officers were able to send a drone into the home that was able to enter the room and determine that the man was injured and not moving,” Parslow explained. “Police then entered the house and were able to check the man’s injuries. Paramedics were then allowed entry but discovered the man had died.”

The man’s identity will not be released until family is notified.

Parslow said police reopened 200 East and lifted the middle school lockdown shortly after determining there was no longer a threat to the neighboring area.

“It allowed us to move and operate, and we just wanted to be careful,” Parslow explained.

In a statement to parents, Mt Logan Middle School assistant principal John Taggart said all students were kept at the school due to police operations nearby and classes were proceeding according to the regular schedule. He said all students would be held accountable and thanked law enforcement for ensuring their safety.

Parslow said no one was injured in the incident. He said it was an “unfortunate event.”
