Accident: Florida man who miraculously survived 244 days in a coma dies after collision with truck

Drew Kohn, a 30-year-old Florida man who miraculously recovered from a 244-day coma against all medical expectations, died in a tragic car accident on Friday.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Kohn was struck by a pickup truck around 5:30 a.m. while traveling on Collins Road in Jacksonville. The driver, who said he did not see Kohn, immediately called 911, but it was too late. Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drew Kohn’s remarkable story of survival began in 2017, just days before his 23rd birthday, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury after a motorcycle accident and fell into a deep coma. Doctors had considered harvesting his organs, but his mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, held on to her unwavering hope. “They would have harvested his organs,” she said, according to WTLV-TV News. “It was my faith that gave me the courage to speak out, to fight back and tell them, ‘You’re not getting a toenail or an eyelash.'”

Eventually, Kohn was declared brain dead, but his mother’s unwavering faith and refusal to give up kept her by his side. After being sent home while still in a coma, Drew surprised everyone when he woke up one day. “Yes, Mom, I’m fine,” he reportedly told his stunned mother. “I love you, Mom.”

After years of intensive rehabilitation, Drew’s recovery was hailed as a modern-day miracle. He managed to walk again, defying all medical expectations. However, his incredible journey came to a heartbreaking end when he was hit by the truck last week.

After her difficult loss, Osborne-Kohn expressed gratitude for the extra time she had with her son. “God heard my request and I’m not angry. I’m not wrathful. I’ve found my peace,” she said. “I got seven years and like Hezekiah turning his face to the wall, I remember sitting on Drew’s hospital bed and saying to myself, ‘Your will be done.'”

Osborne-Kohn takes comfort in the belief that her son is now in heaven and no longer suffering. “Drew is healed, can walk and has no problems balancing,” she said. “He’s probably holding his arm up high saying, ‘Thank you, Jesus!’ Drew is probably holding a football in one hand and a Bible in the other,” she said, according to the New York Post.
