Police search for driver who hit woman while crossing Hallandale Beach Boulevard

HALLANDALE BEACH, Florida. – Family members of a hit-and-run victim seek justice and hope for the recovery of their loved one.

It happened on July 13th at around 3:30 a.m.

The victim, 30-year-old Lorena Santos, was crossing Hallandale Beach Boulevard at Northeast 14th Avenue when she was struck by a car that continued on its way.

Her husband, to whom she had only been married for two weeks, received a call that his new wife was in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

“Her pelvis, she broke her upper arm in two places, and then of course the brain injury, which was a brain hemorrhage,” said John Sutphin, the victim’s husband. “I want justice for Lorena, first I want her to get better. We’re making progress.”

This progress is slow.

Although Santos’ memory is still hazy, detectives are investigating and Sutphin has been reporting to police daily.

“We’re hoping they can get more footage from somewhere,” Sutphin said.

Police believe the vehicle was traveling at high speed before hitting Santos and leaving her to die on the side of the road.

“It’s only because she looked so good that she’s still alive,” Sutphin said.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe page to help with hospital costs. You can find it here.
