Bodycam footage shows police officer shoots black woman after she calls 911

Mr. Grayson says to his partner, “What else are we supposed to do? I’m not going to let damn hot water run on my face.”

Paramedics later arrived at the house and took Ms Massey to a nearby hospital, but by the time they got there she was dead.

Mr. Grayson was arrested and charged on July 17. He pleaded not guilty to all charges the next day. He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on August 26. He has been dismissed from the police force.

The murder attracted national attention in the United States, with US President Joe Biden saying in a statement that Ms Massey “should be alive today”.

Mr Biden added: “Sonya’s death at the hands of a police officer responding to the incident reminds us that all too often, black Americans fear for their safety in a way that many of us do not.”
